When a suspension containing fine particles is left still, the particulate matter in the suspension gradually sinks due to gravity. The larger the particle, the faster the sedimentation rate.
Particulate matter is also accompanied by diffusion when settling in the medium of the benchtop plate centrifuge. Diffusion is absolutely unconditional. Diffusion is inversely proportional to the mass of the substance, and the smaller the particle, the greater the diffusion.
For fine particles such as viruses or proteins, the sedimentation speed is slow and the diffusion phenomenon is large. The strong centrifuge force generated by the high-speed rotation of the bench top centrifuge can make these particles overcome the diffusion and produce sedimentation motion, and finally achieve separation.
